NTRP Self-Rating Guidelines

NTRP Self-Rating Guidelines

What is NTRP?

We at Fuzzy Balls use the NTRP rating system to determine a players’ skill level.

The NTRP Self-Rating Guidelines help tennis players determine their current skill level by comparing their abilities against general rating categories from 1.0 to 7.0.

Players should start at level 1.0 and progress upwards, choosing the level that best fits their abilities. If unsure, players are advised to place themselves in a higher category.

Ratings are dynamic and may change based on skill improvement or match results.

Rating Guidelines for Fuzzy Balls Participants

The Fuzzy Balls Community Tennis Open allows players with an NTRP rating of 3.0 to 4.5.

Guidelines to rate yourself:

  • Start reading from the top of the chart, beginning with Level 3.0
  • Find the level that best describes your general level of play.
  • Ask your Instructor or Coach to validate your self-rating, if you think that will help.
  • Remember that as you play more, and improve, your rating may improve.
  • Update your rating periodically.
  • Results in social and competitive matches will validate whether your chosen level is reasonably accurate.
